My name is Krista Carrasco and I recently graduated with my bachelor’s degree in General Education and plan to work towards an ESL certification. I completed my UTEP Residency Program at Congressman Silvestre and Carolina Reyes Elementary School. I worked alongside my mentor teacher, Michelle Shiroma, in a second grade monolingual classroom. With this current school year ending, it warms my heart that I have been able to start my teaching journey at such an amazing school with the greatest students and exceptional teachers. While utilizing the strategies I grew up with, I have also learned to embrace the advancement of technology in the classroom to facilitate my student's learning.
The advancements of technology have skyrocketed, and it is no stranger to being in the classroom. Although technology was used in my classrooms growing up, it was not used as frequently as it is now. I was familiar with the modeling of assignments with projectors, however seeing students in kindergarten complete their assignments on tablets astonished me. I thought I knew all there was to know about technology, but sometimes I found myself learning from my second graders. Clearly, I still have a lot to learn, but that's what teaching is all about; learning.
From my experience, I plan to use technology everyday to facilitate my student's learning. By utilizing technology in the classroom my students will expand their knowledge of creativity as well as technologically. There is no escaping technology and it is my job to introduce and familiarize my students with a resource they will encounter for years to come. I plan to have a classroom that is inviting and engaging all while incorporating the modern advancements of technology to ensure my student's overall success.
